LOCATION: Jon and his brother grew up fishing together at Ham Lake Park. We’re gathering here to celebrate him in a place that holds so many memories.
DATE: Jon and Erin on April 12, 2014, the day Jon proposed. It’s fitting we join together on this same date to honor Jon’s life.
FOOD: Jon loved great BBQ and was a master on the smoker himself. Smokin J’s will be on site serving brisket and chicken wings — just the way Jon would have like it.

A memorial service will begin at 1:30 PM.
We’ll come together on Sunday, April 12 to remember and celebrate an amazing man and a life lived to the fullest.
We hope this day reflects the things Jon loved most: the outdoors, good food, and time spent with people he cared about.
Jon wasn’t a fan of large gatherings, so we’re keeping things relaxed. The event is very casual—think jeans, flannels, boots, and hats. Camo, Carhartt, and Sitka are fan favorites as well. Most of the event space is outdoors, with a small indoor pavilion and bathrooms available. Jon believed you’re only cold if you’re not wearing the right gear—so dress accordingly.
Facing the lake, away from the pavilions, there will be a tent with a memory table for anyone who would like a quiet moment to reflect.
At 1:30 PM, we will have a short service led by Todd Kussman, who married Jon and Erin. During the service, we’ll have an open mic and would love to hear your stories, such as:
A time you and Jon shared in the great outdoors
Something Jon made for you and the story behind it
Any other favorite memory of Jon
Children are warmly welcome. Jon was a beloved “Unkie” to many, and it feels right for kids to be part of the day. We’ll have outdoor games and toys available for them to enjoy.
Food and beverages will be provided. Smokin’ J’s food truck will serve a custom array of BBQ — something Jon loved and would have fully approved of.
